What masks to use where and why

We all love a good facial mask. They’re a great way to wind down and relax with a quick fifteen minutes of “you” time. This year, masks have evolved in many ways, including fun sheet masks with awesome built-in selfie opportunities and multimasking, the practice of applying multiple masks at the same time to different parts of your face in order to maximize your skin care payoff. It’s common practice to layer your products for the best results when it comes to makeup, so why not make the most of it and multimask? Here are some tips for what mask to put where, depending on your deepest mask desires:

How it Helps: An oil based mask will help when your skin is dry. If your forehead or the apples of your cheeks could use some extra attention, a thick cream mask will hydrate your skin without clogging your pores. Algae is a key ingredient in some brightening masks as well. Your cheeks and your chin are two good places to focus when it comes to anti-aging. Let’s face it- at the beach you will most likely be wearing a bathing suit; which means you need to get your body ready to be seen! Ancient Greeks thought the longest, hottest part of summer brought not only high temperatures, but also fever, lethargy and bad luck. In modern times, we’ve ditched the fever and bad luck, but most of us still agree that high temps and lethargy go together. But hey, there’s good news: you don’t have to give in! We’ve got four winning strategies that are guaranteed to help keep you motivated no matter the weather.
 
1. Get an Accountability Buddy
Set a realistic goal this summer then get your friend involved. That’s right; share your goals and keep track of each another’s progress. If you’re really nerdy, break out the spreadsheets and start logging your friend’s progress, and have your friend log your progress. Meet weekly to discuss what you’re doing. It’s amazing how many times you’ll get to the gym, how many new clients you’ll contact or how quickly you’ll get the closet cleaned when you’ve told somebody you’re going to do it. 
 
2. Ask Yourself, “Why?”
Is your motivation flagging for your heart-felt goal? It’s time to probe deeper. You have to ask yourself why you want to accomplish the goal. Do you want to lose 10 pounds? Well, why? What is losing weight going to do for your life? Keep asking until you get to the emotional core of the goal. If the answer makes you tear up, you’re there. Knowing your higher purpose (AKA your why) clarifies your intentions, which is generally more motivating than wanting to do something, but having little or no clarity on what accomplishing the goal will do for your mental or physical well-being.
 
3. Create a Dream Board
Write your goal in the center of the board. Now cut out pictures, make drawings or use words and other meaningful graphics pertaining to your goal. Be positive! Put the dream board near your bathroom mirror or your workspace. Each day, take a moment to look at this positive visual reminder of your goal. Some people say a dream board is magical, attracting what you want to your life.  Maybe, but it may also be that when your goal is right in front of your eyes, it’s hard to slack off.
 
4. Try a New Technique
If you have a long, arduous task, such as producing a major report, studying for an exam or cleaning out your in-law’s entire house, don’t just try to grind it out. Instead, use the Pomodoro Technique. The idea is that humans function best when they focus in 25 minute chunks and take breaks often. In a nutshell, here’s what you do:
  1. Pick a task you need to accomplish.
  2. Set a timer for 25 minutes and start working
  3. When the timer rings, take a 5-minute break
  4. Repeat above steps up to three times. Every fourth time, take a 25-minute break.
