Best Face Forward

Tips for looking and feeling genuinely friendly

There’s nothing like a warm natural smile and good eye contact to add to your in-person magnetism when connecting with others. Beyond good skincare and makeup, pleasant facial expressions have a positive effect on your interactions in social situations at work and at home.

It’s much easier to approach or converse with a friendly face than someone who seems stressed, uninterested or grumpy. Many people have a naturally happy face, while some of us are often criticized for, “looking tired”. Being aware of the face you’re wearing can have a big effect on your self-image. The key to making any changes in how you face the world is your mindset.

Find Your Smile
Researchers have counted more than 50 different types of smiles. The most genuine one involves smiling with your eyes and your mouth, also known as “smizing”. It’s a smile that originates from your happy place. To find your smize, look into a mirror and think about things that bring you joy and make you smile in response. When your eyes automatically light up and crinkle at the corners, you’ve found your natural smile. Use those same blissful thoughts to put a real smile on your face whenever you need one. Try smiling with your eyes in social or work situations where you want to be sure you look approachable.

Eye Contact
How, when and where we make eye contact is another key to making successful connections. It tells others that we see them and are listening to them. Eye contact makes us appear more confident and truthful, especially in a relaxed manner. Remember to make contact with your eyes as you speak and listen.

Clear Your Face
If you’re leaving a stressful situation to enter a room, the office, or meet a friend for lunch, shake the day off of your face first. Think positive thoughts about what you are about to experience as you wiggle your forehead, nose, mouth to relax tense facial muscles. The exercise may even make you laugh. What’s important here is to work up a pleasant expression.

The Magic of Multimasking

What masks to use where and why

We all love a good facial mask. They’re a great way to wind down and relax with a quick fifteen minutes of “you” time. This year, masks have evolved in many ways, including fun sheet masks with awesome built-in selfie opportunities and multimasking, the practice of applying multiple masks at the same time to different parts of your face in order to maximize your skin care payoff. It’s common practice to layer your products for the best results when it comes to makeup, so why not make the most of it and multimask? Here are some tips for what mask to put where, depending on your deepest mask desires:

Problem: Dry Skin
Solution: Moisturizing Mask
How it Helps: An oil based mask will help when your skin is dry. If your forehead or the apples of your cheeks could use some extra attention, a thick cream mask will hydrate your skin without clogging your pores. To maintain even more moisture, wipe the excess mask off with a towel instead of rinsing.

Problem: Dark Under-Eye Circles
Solution: Under-Eye Sheet Mask
How it Helps: A sheet mask will help minimize dark circles and puffiness under your eyes. Put your under-eye sheets in the fridge to really intensify the cooling effect.

Problem: Irritated Skin
Solution: Soothing/Calming Mask
How it Helps: Apply a soothing or calming mask to any areas that have been red or irritated. Look for a mask with ingredients like oatmeal and aloe that will bring your skin relief.

Problem: Anti-Aging
Solution: Brightening
How it Helps: If you’re looking for a mask that will give your skin a youth-boost, start with a mask that has exfoliating acids and brightening vitamins. Algae is a key ingredient in some brightening masks as well. Your cheeks and your chin are two good places to focus when it comes to anti-aging. For firmer skin, try a mask with a clay based formula.

Problem: Breakouts
Solution: Detoxifying
How it Helps: Apply a thick layer of charcoal mask to your breakout problem areas. Charcoal masks clear pores of dirt and impurities, so your next pimple never makes it to the surface. Clay masks can also be beneficial for breakouts, like the JAFRA Mud Mask. It has vitamin E and antioxidants that remove excess oils and dead skin cells. The JAFRA Clear Complexion Clarifying Mask is another great option.

Beauty Solutions: Lip Know-How

Do you long for a plumper pout? Try these needle-free alternatives

It’s time for another Beauty Solution! This is the part of the blog where we tackle the common beauty problems that many of us and tell you how to fix them, so your beauty routine gets a little easier with every article.

Question: How can I get fuller lips?
A nice full pout has always been a coveted look for some, but injections aren’t the only way!

Lip plumping glosses and serums that stimulate blood circulation in the lips can work wonders, but be careful; some of them are pretty intense. Test it first in a small area and wait a few minutes to make sure it doesn’t irritate your skin or cause you any discomfort.

There are also lip-lining techniques that can give you the appearance of a more prominent pucker. Try lining just outside of your natural lip line with our Lip Definer Lip Liner and then fill in with a matching lip color to turn things up a bit, no needles needed.

Beauty and the Beach

Hit the beach with your beauty essentials in-toe

One of the best parts of summertime is being able to have fun at the beach, whether you’re  at home or on vacation. Feeling the warm sun embrace your body, listening to the waves and feeling sand between your toes is essential to a relaxing summer. However, your beauty regimen needs to adjust to the beach; not only do you want to feel pretty, but it is vital to protect your face, body and hair from the effects of the sun and ocean. Here are some tips to feel like a beach babe:

Beach Body
Let’s face it- at the beach you will most likely be wearing a bathing suit; which means you need to get your body ready to be seen! The night before going to the beach, exfoliate your skin with a body brush (one to try is JAFRA’s Face and Body Cleansing System, which comes with a specific body brush), to remove dull and dry skin.  Follow with a body oil and moisturizer to make your skin smooth and soft. Thirty minutes before hitting the beach, apply a full spectrum sunscreen (such as JAFRA’s Body Protector Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50) all over your body. Each hour while you are at the beach, remember to reapply sun protection, especially if you swim in the ocean.  Après-beach refresh your skin with a lotion such as JAFRA’s Cooling After-Sun Lotion, which contains aloe and shea butter, ingredients proven to soothe the skin.

Beach Hair
Relaxing at the beach means being easy breezy, especially when it comes to your hair. The sun and ocean can not only make your tresses dry and brittle, but these elements can also fade your color if you get highlights or color your hair. If your hair is long, consider braiding it for a trendy and super functional look! You can also wet your hair and slick it back with a hair oil for a moisture treatment while you play. Of course, a wide-brimmed hat is another option to look chic while also being protected.

Glowing, Healthy Makeup
Get your face beach ready by applying an antioxidant serum under your sunscreen; the antioxidants will give your skin a defense boost against the effects of the sun. Next, a high SPF sunscreen is a must; one to try is JAFRA’s Face Protector Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50. Even out your complexion with a CC, or Complexion Corrector Cream that will give you lightweight coverage and will be easy to reapply. Waterproof mascara will open up your eyes without the risk of smearing off and a slick of a moisturizing lip gloss, such as JAFRA’s High Shine Moisture Gloss, will give your lips a sun-kissed glimmer.
