Beauty Resolutions

Beauty habits that take little effort, but pay off big

A new year approaches and with it comes the annual commitments to live a better life. There’s nothing wrong with resolving to do better, of course, but we want to offer a shout out to simplicity. There is something to be said for a simple resolution. After all, the simpler it is, the more likely you are to do it. With this is mind, here are five simple, but very beneficial beauty resolutions:
Stop the Beauty Hoarding
We wish we could tell you to donate those 15 tubes of lipstick you haven’t worn since high school, but you really just need to toss them. Makeup has a shelf life and can harbor bacteria if you use it beyond the ditch date. There is a general rule that mascara should be replaced every three to six months. Lipsticks and eyeshadows last a couple of years. But even if you’re not decluttering for health reasons, resolve to clean out what you don’t use. Tossing something you don’t need can be cathartic, plus, getting rid of what you don't need makes room for what you do need (and a few things you want).
Commit to Sunscreen
Find a sunscreen that works for you and make it a part of your daily regimen – not just during the summer, but year-round. Many products have skin enhancing ingredients beyond standard sunscreen. Think of this as a nonnegotiable, long term relationship. It only requires only about 30 seconds of effort a day, so it’s a pretty manageable courtship. You can also apply sunscreen your décolletage and hands daily, since they’re especially sensitive to the signs of aging caused by the sun.
Develop a Drinking Habit
That’s right, drink up! For proper hydrations, say yes to good old-fashioned H2O, green tea and coconut water. In fact, one of these drinks should be your constant companion. Pass on sugary sodas with loads of caffeine and keep the alcohol to a minimum. Simple, right?
In some cultures, sleep is as important or even more important than consciousness because it’s viewed as the key time for emotional and psychological growth. What we know for sure it that beauty sleep is a real thing. Skimp on sleep and you’ll never look your best, so get to bed! Most women need 7 to 9 hours of shuteye.  Visit the National Sleep Foundation for healthy sleep tips.

Life Hacks to Cut Your Morning Makeup Time in Half

A few tips to help start your day with more beauty and less stress

Busy women everywhere are always looking for ways to save time, especially in the morning. Between getting the household out of bed, fed and dressed and perhaps hitting the snooze button one too many times, little time is left to get ready yourself. That can often lead to your hair and makeup routine getting pushed to the wayside. Here are some beauty hacks to help cut your morning makeup time in half, while still feeling beautiful and confident.
Organize Your Beauty
While this might sound straightforward, how many times have you spent precious minutes searching around for the makeup that you want? Your tinted moisturizer may be in your gym bag, the lipstick you want might be in your briefcase, and so on. Every night before you go to bed, place your makeup and tools on your vanity or bathroom counter in a makeup organizer, so they will be ready to use in the morning. Be sure to sharpen lip and eye pencils and clean makeup brushes so they are ready to use. Then, instead of taking that set of makeup with you, have a second set in a cosmetics bag ready for your purse.
Go for Double-Duty Products
One easy way to save time on your beauty routine is to use less products. It takes time to apply moisturizer, sunscreen, primer and foundation, so why not choose one product that does it all? JAFRA’s Royal Jelly Radiance Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 gives you moisture and sun protection while softening the look of fine lines and wrinkles. On more casual days, use a CC Cream, like JAFRA Beauty’s CC Crème Concealer Broad Spectrum SPF 15 to prime, moisturize and brighten your skin. Next, a cream blush with added vitamins and moisturizers, like JAFRA’s Long Wear Crème Blush in Cashmere Peony, can be used on your cheeks and lips. This trick works both ways; if you have a favorite lipstick color, you can dab a little on your cheeks and blend well for some quick color.
Makeup Map Out
Save time by prioritizing your beauty needs. If having an even skin tone and polished brows are important to you, start with those first. Try timing how long it takes you to apply different makeup on a morning when you have more time, so you know what to do if you have 5 minutes or 2 minutes. You may not have time to apply full eye makeup on a busy morning, but you might have time to apply black liner to your top lashes and smudge it with a cotton swab for a smoky look.

A Mani Goes a Long Way
Polished nails can make you feel really put together, even if you had to skip a few steps to get to work on time. If you don’t have time to paint your nails or the polish has chipped, remove your polish and apply a clear coat like JAFRA Spa's Strengthening Base + Top Coat to add shine while you treat your nails.

The Buzz About Balms

Move over lotion, there’s a new moisturizer in town…

Lip balm? Of course. Hair balm? Sure, but skin balms? It may not be the first balm that comes to mind, but skin care balms are taking the beauty mainstream by storm, and with good reason. Skin balms, body balms, or beauty salves as they were called way back when, were mostly used for cuts and scrapes years ago, but in more recent years they’ve found their rightful place in beauty regimens around the world.

Skin balms are great at keeping your outermost layer of skin moisturized. If your lotion isn’t cutting it when it comes to moisture, especially in the winter months, you’d probably be better off using a balm. They’re ideal for severe dryness and for special areas of the skin that can be especially tough, like your heels and elbows.

A true balm is made with waxes, oils and butters, but zero water. For this reason, they tend to be thicker than lotions. Balms evaporate far more slowly than thinner moisturizers, so your skin has more time to soak in the benefits. Their ability to hold in moisture creates a powerful protective barrier for your skin. The lack of H2O also allows for more beneficial ingredients to be put into one product, making balms natural multitaskers.

A more recent trend in the balm realm is cleansing balms. Not only do they offer long lasting relief for your skin, they’re easy to travel with; another reason to consider trying a cleansing balm. Get through security quick without sacrificing your skin! If a cleansing balm seems like a stretch for you, start off with our Royal Jelly Extra Soothing Balm. It uses the Royal Jelly complex, rich in more than 20 amino acids, Manuka honey, as well as Shea, Cacao and Kokum seed butters to instantly rehydrate your skin and restore softness and comfort.

So the next time you have to replenish your daily body moisturizer, give a balm a shot and see what your skin has been missing!
