My Funny Valentine

How to have fun for this lovey-dovey holiday

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, the pressure is on to plan a special date with their significant other. But what about those of us who are single? Valentine’s Day isn’t just for love birds. Grab your friends (unattached or not) and celebrate each other! Here are some tips to have a fabulous, fun Galentine’s Day!

Send Grown-up Cards
Do you remember bringing your adorable paper Valentine’s Day cards to school? Well keep up the tradition and send your favorite friends cute Valentine’s Day cards. You can buy card packs or even make your own; add special touches like glitter or stickers to glam them up. Inside each card, write a special note about why you cherish your pal. Your friends will love receiving a hand-written card, it’s way more meaningful than a text.

Have a Beauty Bash
Valentine’s Day dates mean dressing up and making yourself feel pretty and sexy! Invite your friends over for an evening of makeup and glamour and then paint the town red (starting with your lips). Ask your friends to wear their favorite dress to go out in, but come over sans makeup. Lay out your collection of eyeshadows, lipsticks, glosses, nail polish and perfume and finish your looks together! One perfect collection to try is JAFRA’s Sweet and Chic Collection. The colors are perfect for a fun night out with your favorites!

Arrange a Dinner
While Galentine’s Day is traditionally celebrated on February 13th, there is no reason February 14th can’t be Galentine’s Day as well. Make a dinner reservation at your favorite restaurant for your friends and ask each guest to bring a flower of their choice. Bring a vase to the restaurant and place it on the table; each friend can add their flower to create a bouquet symbolizing your friendship, support and love for each other.

Visit the Lonely
It’s important to appreciate our friends, especially because some of us don’t have the opportunity. Valentine’s Day is about love and delivering happiness; not just to those we know, but to strangers as well.  So gather your friends and visit an elderly home or homeless shelter and bring Valentine’s Day cards and treats to the people who could use a lot of love. You might make a new friend and it’s sure to make your heart swell. Who knows, this might end up being your best Valentine’s/Galentine’s Day ever!

Beauty Picks 2018

Must have products for the New Year

2018 may have just begun, but there’s already a host of new and exciting beauty must-haves. For a heads up on what’s hot, look no further than this pretty little list right here.

Golden Glow
First and foremost, highlighter is here to stay. Glowing, iridescent skin is everywhere this year, but this time, gold is your go-to. It’s an extremely versatile shade that works on any complexion. Don’t be afraid to mix and match with other metallics, either! All shades remain on trend for 2018, including shimmering, futuristic lipsticks.

All Lined Up
Good news, liner lovers! Black eyeliner is making a high-drama splash for 2018, especially the liquid variety. Lay it on thick top to bottom or go for a classic cat eye if you’re feeling chic. The trick this year is to round off your wing, instead of going for a sharp, straight line.

Major Mascara
When it comes to lashes, 2018 is not for understatements. High volume mascara has made a serious comeback, gracing the faces of every model in sight. If you’re feeling adventurous, embrace a Twiggy-inspired, chunky lash look. It’s not quite sixties hippie, but it’s just enough of a throwback to feel fresh and exciting.

Between the Sheets
2017 was the year of the sheet mask and complexions the world over will be eternally grateful. Now, you can enjoy the same rejuvenation for your hair. Hair sheet masks give your tresses a powerful dose of hydration and a new line of moist wipes instantly infuse your locks with beneficial vitamins and nutrients!

Beauty Resolutions

Beauty habits that take little effort, but pay off big

A new year approaches and with it comes the annual commitments to live a better life. There’s nothing wrong with resolving to do better, of course, but we want to offer a shout out to simplicity. There is something to be said for a simple resolution. After all, the simpler it is, the more likely you are to do it. With this is mind, here are five simple, but very beneficial beauty resolutions:

Stop the Beauty Hoarding
We wish we could tell you to donate those 15 tubes of lipstick you haven’t worn since high school, but you really just need to toss them. Makeup has a shelf life and can harbor bacteria if you use it beyond the ditch date. There is a general rule that mascara should be replaced every three to six months. Lipsticks and eyeshadows last a couple of years. But even if you’re not decluttering for health reasons, resolve to clean out what you don’t use. Tossing something you don’t need can be cathartic, plus, getting rid of what you don't need makes room for what you do need (and a few things you want).

Commit to Sunscreen
Find a sunscreen that works for you and make it a part of your daily regimen – not just during the summer, but year-round. Many products have skin enhancing ingredients beyond standard sunscreen. Think of this as a nonnegotiable, long term relationship. It only requires only about 30 seconds of effort a day, so it’s a pretty manageable courtship. You can also apply sunscreen your d├ęcolletage and hands daily, since they’re especially sensitive to the signs of aging caused by the sun.

Develop a Drinking Habit
That’s right, drink up! For proper hydrations, say yes to good old-fashioned H2O, green tea and coconut water. In fact, one of these drinks should be your constant companion. Pass on sugary sodas with loads of caffeine and keep the alcohol to a minimum. Simple, right?

Sleep!
In some cultures, sleep is as important or even more important than consciousness because it’s viewed as the key time for emotional and psychological growth. What we know for sure it that beauty sleep is a real thing. Skimp on sleep and you’ll never look your best, so get to bed! Most women need 7 to 9 hours of shuteye.  Visit the National Sleep Foundation for healthy sleep tips.
